The rarity of an item is an indicator of how hard it is to find that item. The rarer items are often more powerful. There are 6 different rarities:
Common, which is associated to a black text, is the most common rarity.
the following items are common:
- spyke
- compressed dirt, silt, dirt and sand are common blocks
- bush and jack-o-lanterns are common buildings
- basic armor, basic floatron and basic drifter are common modules
- cannon and ternions are common weapons
- basic propulsor is a common tech
The following items are considered common but are unobtainable in-game:
- warp drive
- farm, houses and windmills, which are decorative buildings
- shops and forges
The second rarity is rare. rare items have their name in blue in the inventory.
The following items are rare:
- cloud, leaves, grass, mudstone, gravel and clay are rare blocks
- spreadshot, swarm missiles, mortar, quickshot, ionodriver, flare, zephyr are rare weapons
- balloon, basic shield generator, basic shieldstone, palm tree, snowman, module mount are rare buildings
- basic slammeron, basic reactor, basic battery are rare modules
- basic antimatter caspule, aileron, basic ultramplifier, basic nuclearizer, basic supercapacitor, barrel extender, barrel choke, barrel suppressor, laser trigger, advanced propulsor, rocket propellant, basic reinforcement are rare techs

Mythic in red
A sixth rarity is glitched, which are creative/console given only
In older versions, namely below 8.0, one could obtain higher rarity items through forging, in the latest versions the forge is only required for infusing and applying tech.
